About Texas High School Lacrosse League
The Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) is the governing body and membership association for boys’ lacrosse Member Teams at the high school level in Texas. The high school level is defined as grades nine through twelve. The Board is comprised of volunteers throughout the state.
THSLL Guiding Principles
- Creating a structured environment in which student athletes, coaches, administrators, and parents benefit from an
organization which facilitates the growth and rewards of playing lacrosse. - Promoting and protecting the health of participating student athletes by establishing uniform rules of play and cultivating the
ideals of good sportsmanship, loyalty and fair play. - Working in harmony with the interscholastic governing bodies of Member School programs.
- Establishing and maintaining a process for continuous improvement of the league, by working with Member School
programs. - Building school based boy’s lacrosse teams in Texas.
THSLL Member Teams
Member Teams consist of Varsity and Junior Varsity. The league is divided into districts and divisions.

Division I is primarily Member Teams that have more established lacrosse programs and are required to play one Inter-District game each regular season with each of the other districts. Division II is targeted at development of Member Team lacrosse programs. Division II Member Teams generally have bylaws, procedures, a designated head coach and president, reasonable relations with their host school and/or city / community, and at least JV and Varsity high school teams. Division III Member Teams are generally new or relatively new lacrosse teams, still working towards critical mass of players, coaches, funding, fields, administrative support and school / city / community support.
The THSLL hosts state championships each year for Divisions I and II. The host venue for the state championships weekend is rotated from district to district every regular season according to a rotation schedule as outlined in Appendix N. Each district crowns its champion through its district playoffs or based on best record at the conclusion of regular season play. The Division I district champions are determined by best record at the conclusion of regular season play, tiebreaker if necessary. There is a requirement for Inter-District games between the top 5 Division I teams from each district playing Inter-District games
with each other based on their records at the end of the regular season according to the rotation schedule as outlined in Appendix N.
12 Division I teams play in an expanded Division I playoff. The 12 teams are determined by regular season records and/or by district playoffs.12 DI teams play in the expanded DI playoffs. The top four teams get 1st round byes. The final four Division I teams are determined through two Super Regional Tournaments based on a Saturday & Sunday format.
The Division II district champions play in the Division II state championship final four. The Division I and Division II final four play single elimination tournaments during the state championship weekend and crown state champions.
Division I and Division II All-Star players are selected by the coaches, and awards are given for All State, All-District, and Honorable Mention.
