Head Coach Position
Program Overview
District/Division: THSLL, South Texas, Class B
Kingwood High School, located in northeast Houston, Texas, is seeking a Head Coach who is deeply invested in the long-term success of both the high school and youth lacrosse programs. The ideal candidate will exemplify professionalism, leadership, and sportsmanship while fostering a positive and development-focused environment. Built on a strong foundation of player development and community involvement, the program includes Varsity, Junior Varsity and communicates with the youth pipeline. Our goal is to continue evolving into a premier program in the Houston area—focused on player development, competitive success, and long-term sustainability.
Position Objective
Kingwood Lacrosse is seeking a collaborative, growth-oriented Head Coach to lead all aspects of the program. The successful candidate will:
- Provide leadership, structure, and vision across Varsity and JV
- Build and sustain a year-round development model that supports multi-sport athletes
- Elevate competitive performance and strengthen the player development pipeline
- Partner with the Board to deliver a positive and sustainable experience for players and families
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Culture
- Serve as a positive role model, emphasizing sportsmanship and foster a strong and disciplined team culture rooted in accountability, teamwork, and respect
- Communicate clearly and consistently with players, families, and the Kingwood Lacrosse Board (including regular program updates, seasonal expectations and overall direction)
- Maintain strong alignment with KHS Athletics, including coordination with the Athletic Director
Coaching & Player Development
- Design and implement a comprehensive coaching curriculum across the high school program
- Plan and lead structured practices and competitive game strategies
- Recruit, develop, and mentor coaching staff
- Support individual player development through regular feedback
- Implement a player development framework to evaluate and track athlete growth: Pre-season (Fall Ball) goal setting and skills assessments. Mid-season (Spring) reviews and ongoing development plans. End-of-season exit meetings and feedback sessions
Program Development & Pipeline
- Support and strengthen a sustainable feeder system from local schools in the community
- Engage with youth coaches and players to build long-term program continuity
- Promote participation among multi-sport athletes in coordination with school athletics
- Formulate strategies to compete for a State Championship at the Varsity level.
- Create inseason and offseason strength training and conditioning
- Represent the program at community events and support ongoing program visibility
Staff & Operations
- Recruit, mentor, and lead assistant coaches across all levels
- Oversee on-field preparation, including practice execution, game strategy, and player readiness
- Manage game-day coaching responsibilities and in-game adjustments
- Utilize film and scouting as tools for player development and game preparation
- Collaborate with the Board on scheduling, logistics, and program planning
- Ensure compliance with league standards while maintaining strong relationships within THSLL
Seasonal Commitment & Structure
The Head Coach is expected to provide leadership across a year-round development framework, including:
- Fall player development and team integration
- Pre-season preparation and system implementation
- Spring competitive season execution
- Off-season engagement, including strength and conditioning support and program planning
Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred
- Strong understanding of lacrosse fundamentals, strategy, and player development
- Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to mentor, inspire, and motivate student-athletes
- Commitment to building a positive culture and developing a full program pipeline
- Active recruiting network and relationships in the collegiate lacrosse landscape is a plus
- Collegiate playing or coaching experience preferred
