Assistant Coach

Position Objective

Kingwood High School is seeking an Assistant Coach to work closely with the Head Coach to develop Varsity and Junior Varsity athletes, contribute to practice planning, and foster a positive, competitive, and growth-focused team culture. This role is ideal for a coach who is enthusiastic about mentoring athletes of different age groups, contributing to program culture, and supporting club-wide initiatives including events and fundraising.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching & Player Development

• Lead or assist in planning and executing practices, games, and team events
• Support head coaches during games, tournaments, and team events.
• Teach fundamentals, positional skills, and lacrosse IQ appropriate to each age group.
• Foster a positive, disciplined, inclusive team culture and player-centered learning environment.
• Help manage player rotations, warm-ups, and sideline organization during events.
• Provide positive feedback and mentorship to athletes at all developmental levels.

Program Development & Pipeline

• Participate in club-wide training sessions, clinics, tryouts, and development programs.
• Support team culture by promoting sportsmanship, accountability, and club values.
• Assist in club fundraising efforts, community events, and parent engagement activities.
• Collaborate with coaches and staff to ensure smooth communication and consistent messaging.

Qualifications

• Prior coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred
• Solid understanding of lacrosse fundamentals, rules, and player development principles.
• Ability to work effectively with children and teens of varying skill levels.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with players, staff, and parents
• Organizational skills for practice prep, game-day duties, and team support
• Commitment to sportsmanship, player development, and the program’s values
• Must pass background check and meet all organizational safety requirements.

Compensation

• Stipend based on experience and seasonal workload.
• Additional opportunities may be available for clinics, camps, and special events.
