Coaching Director / Varsity Head Lacrosse Coach

Position

  • The Vandegrift Lacrosse Booster Organization (Vipers Lacrosse), a proud member of the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL), is seeking a strong communicator, a positive role model, and a disciplined leader who fosters a culture of accountability, teamwork, and respect.
  • This role serves as the Varsity Head Coach, overseeing the competitive success and development of both Varsity, JV and Youth teams.
  • The Coaching Director plays a critical leadership role in mentoring athletes, building a cohesive coaching staff, and fostering a positive culture aligned with our core values of Family, Toughness, and Discipline. We are seeking a leader who inspires through compassion, coaches with intentionality, and brings a genuine passion for the game of lacrosse.

  • We are proud of our historic State Championship run in 2024 and continue to build on that momentum through comprehensive athlete development and program-wide excellence.
  • Our program is supported by a dedicated Board of Directors who collaborate closely with the coaching team to provide resources, structure, and long-term strategic planning. Together, we strive to maintain our high standards and continue expanding lacrosse in Central Texas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Culture & Communication Foster a strong, inclusive, and disciplined team culture rooted in Family, Toughness, and Discipline. Serve as a role model for sportsmanship, accountability, and leadership both on and off the field.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with players, families, and the Vipers Board: Weekly team updates Season goals and expectations
  • Player development feedback Team Leadership & Game Management Serve as the Head Coach for the Varsity team, leading all practices, games, and tournaments.
  • Oversee and coordinate JV team scheduling and development, ensuring alignment with Varsity systems.
  • Design and execute structured practice plans tailored to seasonal goals and team needs.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to build and maintain a competitive game schedule, including travel coordination and event preparation.
  • Oversee all on-field operations and preparation, including field logistics, equipment, supplies for practice and game day events. Conduct thorough scouting and film breakdown of opponents and lead weekly film sessions with players.
  • Manage game-day coaching responsibilities and in-game strategy execution.
  • Player Development Develop and implement an Individual Player Indexing system to evaluate and track athlete growth: Pre-season (Fall Ball) goal setting and skills assessments. Mid-season (Spring) reviews and ongoing development plans. End-of-season exit meetings and feedback sessions.
  • Identify additional growth opportunities including: College recruiting exposure Individual training sessions Club team participation and skill clinics
  • Coaching Staff Oversight Recruit, lead, and mentor all high school-level coaching staff including Varsity, JV and youth Head Coaches and Assistants.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and support consistency in coaching language, philosophy, and expectations. Facilitate professional development and Coach the Coach opportunities for continued staff growth Academic & School Engagement Monitor player academics and eligibility in collaboration with the VHS school sponsor.
  • Maintain productive relationships with VHS athletics and administration, ensuring alignment with school expectations.
  • Support student-athletes in navigating the college recruiting process, including highlight film preparation and outreach guidance.
  • Collaboration with Program Director Work in close partnership with the Program Director to ensure alignment across all levels of Vipers Lacrosse. This includes coordinating schedules, events, and program-wide initiatives, establishing consistent coaching standards and terminology, and participating in joint planning sessions to support player development, program growth, and a unified culture.
  • While the Coaching Director focuses on high school operations, they also provide input on youth development strategy to ensure seamless progression and cohesion throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching lacrosse at the high school, youth, or collegiate level.
  • Proven success in player development, competitive performance, and team leadership. Strong understanding of lacrosse strategy, skill progression, and rules of play.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and lead a diverse group of student-athletes.
  • Familiarity with technology platforms for film analysis, player tracking, and communication. Active recruiting network and relationships in the collegiate lacrosse landscape.
