On Saturday, March 21, college lacrosse will return to Dallas for the third annual Patriot Cup. Four Division I teams will take the field at SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium to face-off in two all-star match ups. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization which seeks to assist men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world.
"We're thrilled with the team participation for this year's event. This level of play really highlights Texas as a top lacrosse venue,€ said Tom Fitzsimmons, president of the North Texas Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse and the Patriot Cup committee chair. "No sport has grown faster at the high school and college levels over the last five years.€Â
The 2009 Patriot Cup will showcase some of the nation's premier collegiate and high school programs. Four Division I teams - Notre Dame vs. University of Vermont and U.S. Air Force Academy vs. Bucknell - will play on Saturday, March 21.  Local high school teams St. Mark's School of Texas, Episcopal School of Dallas and Highland Park High School will serve as event hosts and also compete at Ford Stadium on March 20 - 21. The local schools will take on the top-ranked lacrosse teams from St Mary's School from Annapolis, Maryland; as well as Ft. Collins High School and Air Academy High School from Colorado. MCLA teams from SMU and Texas A&M University are also slated to play on March 21.
Last year's event raised more than $10,000 to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project. A wounded solider will be honored during halftime of the Air Force vs. Bucknell game on March 21. Please visit www.PatriotCup.com for more information on the event.
Tickets are available at www.PatriotCup.com or by emailing patriotcup@gmail.com. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults. A 20% group discount is available for groups of 10 or more.
