Schedule: Based on sports schedule (training/games/tournaments)

Job Summary

Position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the sports program. Position assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques.

Essential Duties

Assists the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport

Organizes, directs, and supervises individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach

Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students

Assists with determining game strategy

Assists the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition

Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury; communicates regularly with the athletic trainer in the rehabilitation of athletes

Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators

Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach

Participates in special activities to include parades, banquets, fundraising and recruiting activities

Performs support tasks such as equipment inventory, distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records

Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities while instructing, guiding, and motivating students to be successful on and off the field

Attends all coaches meetings, staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance

Encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard

Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Director of Athletics, & Principal or other appropriate administrator

Requirements: 

Must have previous coaching and/or playing experience at the high school varsity level or higher. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with board members, parents, coaches, and students.
