THSLL Central District D2 Rules Supplement
Structure 5.1. In the event there are ten (>10) or more teams participating in the District, the District shall be divided geographically to the point where the difference between groups is no more than one team.
5.2. If less than ten (<10) teams are participating in the District, there shall be no subdivision and the District will be consolidated. 6. District Championship
6.1. The District Championship (hereafter referred to as the “Championship”) is intended to be the culminating event in the District which identifies and recognizes a distinct Champion as well as providing seeding for the THSLL regional playoffs.
6.2. The Championship shall be scheduled on the first non-holiday weekend preceding the THSLL regional playoff and shall be included on the two year calendar. If at all possible, the Championship should be held jointly with the D1 Central District Championship. If this is not possible, a District team will host all rounds of play and will host given the provisions of THSLL rule appendix G (regarding District Championship Standards).
6.3. The Championship will consist of four (4) teams playing on Saturday and Sunday. Teams will be seeded based on performance in District qualifying.
6.3.1. Championship will be conducted in accordance with THSLL rules, Appendix G (regarding District Championships)
6.3.2. Tournament bracket and seeding results are located in Appendix A.
6.4. In order to qualify for the Championship, teams must demonstrate end-of-season preparation for higher competition by winning a qualifying round. Regular season play provides preference to teams that demonstrate strength during the regular season.
6.5. Qualifying rounds will be considered “non-district” games for the purpose of THSLL scheduling.
6.5.1. The highest ranking team in a given qualifying game incurs all costs and is the home team.
6.5.2. The qualifying round is played on the Wednesday preceding the Championship. There are two (2) scenarios for the qualifying round:
6.5.2.1. In the event the District consists of ten or more (> 10) participating teams, the District would consist of a north group and a south group. Since all teams may not play each other during the regular season, it is appropriate that all teams demonstrate strength against teams from the District. To this end, qualifying rounds are always played with a north team competing against a south team. This considers the possibility that the 4th place team in one group may be better than the 1st place team in the other. Additionally, this follows the same logic and supports the THSLL decision to create a 16-team regional system as the previous system assumed the 1st place in one district was better than the 2nd place team in the others; 2014 state championship results proved this assumption erroneous.
6.5.2.1.1. Based on regular season standings, four (4) games will be played with winners advancing to the Championship: 6.5.2.1.1.1. Even numbered years 6.5.2.1.1.1.1. 1st North plays 4th South (winner is the District 1 seed) 6.5.2.1.1.1.2. 2nd South plays 3rd North (winner is the District 4 seed)
3
6.5.2.1.1.1.3. 1st South plays 4th North (winner is the District 2 seed) 6.5.2.1.1.1.4. 2nd North plays 3rd South (winner is the District 3 seed) 6.5.2.1.1.2. Odd numbered years 6.5.2.1.1.2.1. 1st North plays 4th South (winner is the District 2 seed) 6.5.2.1.1.2.2. 2nd South plays 3rd North (winner is the District 3 seed) 6.5.2.1.1.2.3. 1st South plays 4th North (winner is the District 1 seed) 6.5.2.1.1.2.4. 2nd North plays 3rd South (winner is the District 4 seed) 6.5.2.2. If the District consists of less than ten (<10) participating teams, the District would consist of one group. This results in a situation where each team must face the others and regular season play can reasonably determine strength. In such a scenario, the 1st and 2nd place teams will already be considered as qualified for the Championship. 6.5.2.2.1. Based on regular season standings the first and second place teams are automatically in the Championship (as the 1 and 2 seeds respectively) and two (2) games will be played with winners advancing to the Championship: 6.5.2.2.1.1. 4th place plays 5th place (winner is the District 4 seed) 6.5.2.2.1.2. 3rd place plays 6th place (winner is the District 3 seed) 6.6. The District Championship trophy is presented to the District Champion each year by the previous year’s Champion. The trophy is to be retained and cared for by the District Champion until the subsequent District Championship. In the event a program wants to keep a trophy perpetually, that program will be responsible for purchasing a replica at the program’s expense. In the event a program does not return the trophy, that program will be responsible for replacing the trophy, at the programs expense, prior to competing in any further district competition at any level.
7. Rule Making 7.1. This rule supplement is in accordance with the THSLL Rule 6.0 and remains in effect for future years unless ratified, amended, or repealed at the District scheduling meeting. 8. Effective Period 8.1. This rules supplement was approved by a quorum of Central district coaches on September 24, 2016. 8.2. Effective date is beginning September 24, 2016
