St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School is an outstanding Independent Catholic school serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade on two adjacent campuses in Austin, Texas. Summary of Position:

The school seeks an experienced boys lacrosse coach to lead the Junior Varsity team and act as defensive coordinator. The ideal candidate has previous coaching and playing experience at a high level, is involved in the lacrosse community, and dedicated to carrying out the mission of the school. This position is a stipend position. This position will report to the head boys lacrosse program director. The coach will work seasonally as needed for the sport assigned.

Responsibilities

  • The coach will attend fall practices and events when available and all spring practices and events
  • Evaluating performance and providing suitable feedback, balancing criticism with positivity and motivation
  • Assessing strengths and weaknesses in a participant's performance and identifying areas for further development
  • Adapting to the needs and interests of group or individual participants
  • Effectively communicating instruction
  • Encouraging participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge and techniques
  • Ensuring that participants train and perform to a high standard at all times
  • Acting as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the people you work with working to a high legal and ethical standard at all times, particularly in relation to issues such as child safeguarding and health and safety requirements
  • Collaborating with the Boys Lacrosse staff on practice plans, strategy, and goals
  • Incorporating program goals, culture, and priorities into training
  • Guiding all levels of play within the program to adopt strategies
  • Coordinating participants' attendance at meetings and other sports events
  • Planning and running programs of activities for groups and individuals
  • Consistently and appropriately providing behavioral guidance to individuals

Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience required
  • Playing experience at the collegiate level (NCAA, MCLA, etc.) required, defender preferred
  • Developing knowledge and understanding of fitness, injury, sports psychology, nutrition, and sports science
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude toward students, staff, and faculty
  • High-energy positive style of engagement with students
  • Ability to coach independently and without direction
  • Displays integrity, professionalism, and high character at all times
